To anyone who majored in marine biology but started off with the AA degree route what classes did you take before pursuing your bachelors for marine biology? And any internship tips that you may also share! #Spring25

I am currently a Highschool senior who plans on going to a community college for my AA degree because it is more affordable and closer at the moment. I want to major in either marine biology or marine science because it is broader but mainly marine biology.

Hi Skylar,

While I'm not a marine biologist, I am a former transfer student so I know a thing or two about the process. The most important thing is to make sure that your community colleges will transfer to the four-year institution you plan on attending AND that you complete the prerequisites required for your major. I would start by speaking with the guidance counselor at your local community college and letting them know which universities you are thinking about transferring to and your intended major at each of those locations. From there, they can help you navigate which courses you should take in order to successfully transfer.

Many schools use Transferology (https://www.transferology.com/index.htm) to help students do this on their own. Many universities will also list the prerequisites required to enter into a major, so it would be helpful to review those and ask your community college counselor specifically which classes would allow you to meet those requirements.
