Hi Zander. To develop your skills further, you need to make learning a lifelong habit. The most successful people never stop learning. You should learn something new every week, read articles, watch tutorials, or take online courses. If you're interested in design, you can study other people's designs to understand what makes them good, then create your own projects to practice your skills. Over time, you can build a portfolio that shows your creativity and progress.

Next, you need to focus on building good habits early. Time management and consistency are key. Learn how to plan your days by setting small, realistic goals and breaking big tasks into steps. Small, steady progress is better than working too hard once in a while and burning out.

Also, you need to work on your soft skills, these are just as important as technical ones. Good communication, teamwork, and flexibility will help you in any job. You can build these skills by joining clubs, volunteering, or working on group projects. These experiences teach you how to listen to others, handle feedback, and solve problems together.

All the best.

Hi Zander,

Wong has good practical advice for you. It might also be helpful to study craft as a broad discipline--by that I mean reading or watching biographies of socially engaged designers such as Milton Glaser, who cared deeply about improving people's lives through good design, and thinking about what kind of designer you want to be. PBS's Craft in America is a good series that you can find on YouTube, and it covers all kinds of people who work in various media and roles. What I'm getting at is considering the service aspects of your design. I think that too much emphasis is put on "brand" and "presence" at the expense of how design can help customers, businesses, and society in general.

Also, I think it's important to learn how to appreciate process and to be fully present in whatever you undertake. People who spend their lives multitasking and relentlessly chasing goals at the expense of fully experiencing the here and now miss out on a lot. Engaging in contemplative routines--whether that's a daily walk or exercise routine, meditating, making art or music just for yourself, or cooking--are some ways in which you can learn how to be fully present, which will help you get the most of any experience by cultivating good listening habits and put you in a better position to provide high-quality services and develop strong relationships.

Think about all the aspects of your life as contributing to a larger whole, and you'll start seeing connections and find enjoyment in the most mundane tasks. Then when you have to do something that seems boring, pointless, or hard, you'll have the tools to take on those challenges and get the most out of every experience. If you can find real value and pleasure in everyday tasks, your work will reflect your joy, and you'll foster the strong relationships you need to succeed.

Thanks for asking a great question! Hope this helps.
