Hi Grace,
Good question! Biopsychology is a strong and flexible choice; it sits right at the intersection of psychology and biology, which opens more doors than it closes. The best path really depends on what you want to do with it, because this major is more like a foundation than a final stop. Many students go on to areas like neuroscience research, healthcare (like medicine or psychiatry), mental health, or biotech. So instead of trying to decide everything now, focus on building a path that keeps your options open.
In college, the most important thing you can do is combine your coursework with hands-on experience. Getting into a research lab early, even in a small role, will make a huge difference. It helps you figure out if you enjoy research, and it also builds skills that are valuable for graduate school or jobs. You’ll also want to pay attention to your science foundation; courses like biology, chemistry, and even some statistics or data analysis will matter more than you might expect. These are what make you competitive for both research roles and further study.
Over time, try to notice what you enjoy most. Do you like working in labs, analyzing data, or learning about behavior and mental health? That pattern will guide your next steps, whether that’s grad school, medical school, or entering the workforce. Biopsychology is a great starting point, but your experiences during college are what will shape where it leads. If you stay curious and actively seek opportunities, you’ll have a lot of strong options ahead of you.
Best wishes!
