Hi Madison,
I'm truly delighted that you wish to become a forensic engineer in the field of mechanical engineering. It's a very exciting field of study.
Some of the outstanding forensic mechanical engineers I've had the privilege to work with specialized in engineering metallurgy - study of the properties of metals and their behavior under loading conditions. They (forensic engineers) are often required when major structural failures occur e. g. abnormal wear in heavy duty roller chains, implosion of storage tanks under vacuum conditions etc. Forensic evidence gathered is usually analyzed in materials labs.
One of the forensic mechanical engineers I worked with already had a PhD in engineering metallurgy with vast practical experience & knowledge.
Good luck in your studies. It's a great opportunity.
