Should I become a pediatric dentist or a general dentist??
I’m a 16-year-old high school junior, and I’m trying to decide whether I should become a pediatric dentist or a general dentist. I would love to work with kids, and I want to help children feel less scared of going to the dentist.
What are the benefits and challenges of becoming a pediatric dentist compared with becoming a general dentist? How are the two careers different, including how much money dentists can make and how long it takes to become each type of dentist?
The three colleges I’m mainly considering are Ohio State University, Howard University, and the University of Toledo. They are my top options because each has a dental program or a dental college connected to it. I’m also taking college classes through Tri-C, and I’m about halfway done with my undergraduate degree.
How could the college classes I’m taking through Tri-C affect my path to dental school? What should I consider when choosing between these three colleges? What steps would I need to take after my undergraduate degree to become a general dentist or a pediatric dentist? What advice would you give someone my age who is interested in either career?
