What steps can I take to get into my dream college?

I wish to attend UIC to study CS. I am currently enrolled at Penn Foster High School (online) after being homeschooled my whole life. Penn Foster is an accredited high school; however, it varies depending on which places accept it as a legitimate high school diploma. Most do; however, I read there are exceptions depending on the college. Also, I've been told a Penn Foster diploma isn't highly regarded, but is it better than a GED? I just wanted to know if I could get into UIC when I graduate from Penn Foster soon with a 4.0 GPA. And what are some other steps I can take to ensure I have a good chance of getting into a school like UIC? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any answer, as they offer me more insight.

Don't let being homeschooled or attending Penn Foster stop you from aiming for UIC. Your educational journey might be unique, but that doesn't make you any less ready for college success.

A 4.0 GPA is an amazing achievement, and you should feel proud of your hard work. Still, it's a good idea to contact UIC's admissions office to explain your background. Ask if they accept Penn Foster diplomas, what documents you need, and if there are any extra steps for students with nontraditional schooling. Getting this information straight from the source is always best.

Here are some more tips:
- Strengthen your computer science skills by learning programming languages like Python, Java, or C++. Work on small projects to show your passion and dedication.
- Make sure you're comfortable with math subjects like algebra, precalculus, and calculus since they're important in computer science.
- Consider community college as a backup. If UIC has concerns about your high school records, earning credits at an accredited community college could be another route to reach your goal. Just check UIC's transfer requirements first.
- Don't hesitate to contact admissions more than once. Try to get written responses so you know exactly what you need to do.
