Hi Diana:

Reading and organizing will be keys to having fun and succeeding in college. There is a wonderful thing that Professors provide at the beginning of the semester: A Syllabus.

Tells you everything you need to do throughout the semester...keep that close at hand and follow it, using check marks when you've accomplished an assigned reading or activity.

You'll be ready if you have a strong desire to learn and the ability to show up to class and participate!

Hi Diana D. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

I think one of the best skills you can demonstrate, whether it's in academics or in other spaces, is focus. College/campus life can be a great experience. With that experience, can come lots and lots of distractions. Your level of focus can mean the difference between graduating, graduating on time, paying more/staying longer or not graduating at all. Your level of focus can also drive how you do in your classes/projects and the job prospects that you consider as your reach the end of your college journey.

So does that mean that you should be all work, all the time? Definitely not...but it will be important to designate focus time and be vigilant about maintaining that focus time. This type of discipline can then lead to ensuring that you make time for other aspects of life, college/work-life balance, that will help you to be a success in your journey.

Hope you find this answer helpful and best of luck to you!

Time management! yours and others time is valuable don't waste either. learning what makes you tick/ gets you excited .. i.e what you learn and educate yourself about because well you like it, and learning how you learn best! Study Skills! Not getting hung up on not having the answer or not knowing but focusing more on learning where to find the answer or whom to ask to find it.

learn to skip the middle man when you have a question and have access to the closest to the top of the food chain use it, this often leads to faster and more responsive results. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I think the most important life skill for success is organization.

Unlike high school, college professors aren’t going to remind you of assignments and responsibilities. Collage is much more independent then high school. You will need to be organized with assignments and deliverables for each respective course. Keeping a calendar can help with tracking due dates and prioritizing assignments.

Best of luck. You’ve got this!

Rawa’s Answer

Hello,

In my opinion there are three key behavioural traits that can help you get through your education years:
1. Determination
2. Resilience
3. Time Management

With those three characteristics you can overcome any obstacle and take on the challenges that come your way. Remember that you learn the most from your failures, so don't be afraid to fail. Just make sure that when you fall, you get yourself to stand back up to continue to push through, and trust that all the hard work will pay off at some point in time.

Good luck!
