Paul’s Answer

I majored in Economics and graduated back in 1995 from a HBCU. From personal experience I believe that a degree in Economics is the foundation for any business or finance career. So depending upon where you end up at your first job will determine what your starting salary is. The more important thing for you to focus on is that I said first job and starting salary. Don't focus too much on where you start because no matter what field you go into, you probably won't be there forever. Your first job will be an entry level position just to get your foot in the door. It is just a place to get started and build upon. Focus on the long-run.

Mikela’s Answer

Hi Kathleen, great question! My name is Mikela and I majored in economics at Georgetown University. I graduated in May 2014 and went to work at PwC (an accounting firm) as an economic consultant. You can go MANY different directions with a degree in economics - I agree with Paul who first answered your question, economics is the foundation for any business or finance career. There is no uniform salary for an individual with a degree in economics. Salaries can vary depending on where you work - I recommend doing a quick google search of different positions you might be interested in, and you'll be able to see some entry-level salaries. Know that when you first get a job out of college, your salary will increase every year based on performance and promotion. Hope this helps and keep up the great work!

jessica’s Answer

I majored in Economics and graduated from University of California, Davis. I've learned it's very valuable to learn learn learn throughout your college years all different fields of work related to business/economics. Primarily, the career you choose should fulfill you and salary will come second. When you think more about what kind of impact you're making toward society and the world, that's something money cannot replace. Because there is so much you can do with an Economics degree and with that, comes a huge salary range. The more specialized skill that is required of a job position, the higher the pay potential. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions, I'd love to talk more about this.
