Linda Ann’s Answer

Your question needs a bit more focus. Example: Guidance Counselors work in high schools and generally have a degree in Education. I suggest that you explore the web site of the American Counseling Association to learn about the options for credentialing (think licensure). Those with social work and psychology master's degree may qualify for the "Licensed Professional Counselor" (LPC) credential depending upon the coursework completed AND the state in which the person wishes to practice.

Good luck finding a career path that is suitable with your heart's desire!

Yolonda’s Answer

It depends on what type of counselor you want to be. Counseling is a broad term. You can be a counselor in schools, non-profit organizations, clinics, military, hospitals, etc. Your population can vary depending on setting and preference. First, I would start by exploring what setting would I like to work in and then what population you would like to work with (youth, elderly, military, substance abuse, etc.)
