Michel’s Answer

Depends on where you are trying to go. If you are going to a top 50 school in the country they are going to look at your transcripts and determine if you are going to be able to get through a degree. The better the school the more they are going to look at your transcripts and determine if you are going to be a good fit for the school. That being said be realistic with yourself. I was on the bottom half of my high school because I hated going to high school. I didn’t like the teachers, and I felt like I was wasting my time. I went into the military for a five years and I grew up and realized how important school was. I then went to community college most anyone can get in and this is where you can prove yourself. I did extremely well and went to a four year and was accepted into medical school. College and high school are very different. In my high school a lot of the kids that were extremely great at school failed in college because it is a new environment. Without having pressure from the family a lot of kids will crumble. If you are good at school, but hate micro management you will most likely do fine in college because you will be responsible for yourself. The professor is not going to find you and explain that you need to work harder they will just give you an F at the end of the semester. So yes a lot of schools will look at your transcript, but that is not everything. They are going to look at who you are and why you want to go to school. If you have good reasons you can make up for some bad grades, but remember the school is going to screen people based on who they think will add to the school in the future.

Jason’s Answer

A high school transcript can be very important to get into certain universities, depending on the school. It can also be a big part of getting a scholarship, which can greatly reduce your student debt before you even start! That said, there are many other factors that play into a school's admissions policies, including ACT or SAT scores, sports or other extracurricular activities, involvement in volunteer/service activities, and leadership experience. So a below-average transcript also doesn't mean you can't get into college - it just may limit your opportunities a little or force you to rely on other elements of your application.

So a good high school transcript can help you get into college, but it's only one of several things schools look at. Once you're there, people don't pay much attention to it. However, all the habits you formed while working on a good high school transcript can translate into better grades and a deeper understanding of the topics you're studying. Do your best with what you have, and you'll do fine!

Yes! Your GPA is one of the most important factors when applying to colleges, especially if you're trying to get into a top university. Your transcript helps supplement that by showing the admissions board what classes you've taken and where your strengths/ weaknesses are (and how well they might align with your major).

Of course, there are other important factors when applying to colleges, such as SAT/ ACT scores, extracurriculars, and other leadership experiences you can showcase. So, if you think your transcripts may fall a bit short, you can still put your best foot forward by emphasizing some of these other factors!

Megan’s Answer

I feel it is definitely helpful. It is a must if you want to attend a college that has limited enrollment or top rated. Remember, you are trying to impress them, and they are trying to impress you. However, you do not have to be "the best." Anyone with decent grades will find some sort of college to attend.

Ray’s Answer

Short answer- Yes. Most schools look at your transcripts, clubs and activities, SAT/ACT, etc. However great advice is to start off at your local community college. Take the gen eds and electives to find what you like. This will help boost your grades and help find what you want to do and allow you to transfer and show your college transcript. This will also save you a lot of money when transferring to a 4 year school.

Joe’s Answer

The short answer is yes.
If you think about it..coming out of high school and with little to no work experience, colleges have only three ways they can evaluate you
1) HS Transcript - Includes both academic and extracurricular
2) Standardized Testing
3) Personal letters of recommendation

If one of these three is not up to par...you're already starting with one of three areas where you will not likely fare as well as many of your competitors who are applying to the same school.

Sometimes a person who didn't shine on the transcript ..but had a stellar test performance and shows great record of extracurricular..can make up for it....but I think that's more the exception than the rule

You can always check out what are the average GPA and Test Scores for successful applicants to the college you want to apply. This will give you an idea if you're in the ballpark or not before going to the trouble /expense of applying
Here's a nice tool on line that tracks this info

Joseph’s Answer

Yes, it absolutely is. I made a lot of bad choices in high school. I didn’t take the ACT serious (I was starving so I just circled random boxes to get done) and I graduated with a 2.7 GPA. Most colleges won’t look at me right now, however ANYTHING is possible. With my determination, I start my bachelors program May 1st. You can achieve anything!

Chirayu’s Answer

Yes, having a good high school transcript is important for college admissions. Your high school transcript is one of the most important factors that college admissions officers consider when making admission decisions. Colleges want to see that you have taken challenging courses, done well in those courses, and demonstrated academic potential and preparedness for college-level work. In addition to your grades, colleges also consider other aspects of your high school transcript, such as the rigor of your course load, the types of courses you have taken, and your overall academic performance. A strong transcript can also improve your chances of receiving scholarships and other forms of financial aid. That being said, your high school transcript is not the only factor that colleges consider. Admissions officers also look at your test scores, extracurricular activities, essays, letters of recommendation, and other aspects of your application. So while a good high school transcript is important, it is not the only factor that determines whether or not you will be admitted to college.

Mary Jean’s Answer

Yes, it is very important. However, extra activities, volunteering, and real-life experience helps in some situations. It really depends on the college. Talk with a guidance counselor to find out what options you have. Sometimes, things happen that you can't avoid. A good essay or interview also helps! You will need to answer/prove, "why should this college accept me"?

Adrian’s Answer

Yes, having a good high school transcript is important for college admission. College admission officers review a student's high school transcript to assess their academic performance, rigor, and potential for success in college. A high school transcript typically includes information on a student's grades, course selection, GPA, and standardized test scores.

A strong transcript that shows consistently high grades in challenging courses, along with extracurricular activities, can make a student stand out in the college admission process. In addition, many colleges and universities have minimum GPA and standardized test score requirements for admission.
