Hi Leticia,

It can be complicated to earn a college scholarship if you are from another country. However, there are scholarships that you can filter that include international students. I have met many foreign students who attend college and pay little to nothing out of pocket because of scholarships. One website that has always help is the following:

I hope this helps!

US Universities offer scholarships to many foreign students who have achieved significantly well in their home country. Many students in India get scholarships to go to Ivy League universities for their graduate studies with full scholarships.
You need something to show for any college or university to offer you scholarships.
You have to overcome two obstacles 1) secure student visa based on credentials and 2) a college or university that accepts you based on what you have accomplished to give you scholarships.

Hi Leticia,

Good question. Most international students can gain scholarships through several routes offered by the schools they are applying to and other organizations.

Most of these scholarships will be based solely on academic achievement and scores not your economic ability to pay for school in the US, for example.

Easier option: For example, colleges and universities may offer academic, merit or private scholarships that are based on academic achievement (GCE/GSCE exams or other high-level High school exams required in Spain), SAT/ ACT scores, an essay or project, or the major you plan to study . These schools will also note if international students can apply for such scholarships.

More challenging option: In addition, different private organizations and business, both in Spain and the US, may offer scholarships for international students and even jobs at the end of your study as a scholarship req. You can start looking around in Spain to see what’s available to you, and what majors are required to determine if this option is a good fit for you.

Finally, your major or global organization or club affiliations (I.e., Key-Club, Rotary Club, some churches, etc.) may help you secure scholarships as well. For example, if you’re interested in any STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or interested in a major/ career that is in needed right now, you may find more funding options for you as well.

Similarly, some global organizations or clubs (like the ones I listed earlier) may help you apply and compete for scholarships (if available).

A good first step is to have a robust list of 25-30 schools to research (private and public) and determine which schools have multiple options available to you as an international students. If you don’t see any options, then refresh your list with new colleges, etc.

I hope this helps!
