Here are some tips on how to work towards your career goal in computer science:

Set specific and measurable goals. What do you want to achieve in your career? Once you know what you want to achieve, you can start to break it down into smaller, more manageable goals.
Create a plan. Once you have your goals, you need to create a plan to achieve them. This plan should include things like what courses you need to take, what skills you need to develop, and what internships or jobs you need to get.
Take action. The most important thing is to take action. Don't just sit around and wait for things to happen. Start working towards your goals today.
Don't give up. There will be times when you feel like giving up. But it's important to remember why you started in the first place. Keep your goals in mind and keep working towards them.
Get help. If you're struggling to achieve your goals, don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many people who can help you, such as your professors, advisors, and mentors.
Working towards your career goal in computer science can be challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding. By following these tips, you can increase your chances of success.

Hagen’s Answer

Follow your curiosity. Technology is so deep and wide it’s a never ending terrain to explore. I’m 67 and these days I am researching quantum computation, GPUs, DPUs, FPGAs, But I’ve also studied AWS, VR, AR, IT management, Python and so on. You’re probably think “We’ll, I can’t specialize in everything!* and that’s true, but consider these two hard learned facts:

1. Technology changes crazy fast so you can’t really decide I am going to learn one thing well and that’s it. You’ll be lucky to focus on that skill for 10 years before it’s no longer in demand.
2. While you can’t specialize in everything, it helps to be good at things outside your job description. I am not a particularly good programmer but it helps being able to program. I am not a MBA, but it helps (a lot) to understand business fundamentals. I couldn’t get a job doing those things but I am a better tech sales person because I can.

Hagen recommends the following next steps:

Figure out how you like to learn: videos, books classes, labs conversions and get busy learning. My father always said “Don’t let your schooling get in the way of your education “.
Study / explore everyday. 30 mins a day over the years will put you head an shoulders above your peers.
Don’t just focus on your career, follow what interests you.
Don’t rely on college. College is great - I went to Berkeley, but then it’s over and you’re 25. How are you going to keep learning for the next 40 or 50 years?
