What are the best scholarship opportunities to pursue if i'm interested in studying abroad for a semester? #Spring23

I want to study abroad at least once in my college years. I think it would be very interesting to get immersed in another culture an out my view of the world into a new perspective! Unfortunately the means to make this happen is a little difficult and i'm curious if there is any scholarship opportunities out there that could provide some extra assistance! #Spring23

Hi Alyssa!

I am excited to see you are thinking of studying abroad. I studied abroad when I was in college and my college offered a couple of different study-abroad scholarships and affordable programming. I got a scholarship to study abroad and I choose to do a less-long program that did not cost as much. My program was only ten days long.

If you are looking to spend a semester or summer abroad it might cost more but when looking at colleges I would see if they have any special study abroad programs. Some schools partner with colleges in other countries where you can spend a semester there and pay the same amount of tuition you would pay at your college.

The study abroad office should be able to help you with finding scholarships as well.

I hope this helps!

Alyssa, you ask a very good question on an area that I have experience with since my daughter will be studying in Berlin next Spring. Fortunately, for her, there is no cost beyond the normal tuition for that particular term since the study abroad program is incorporated into the overall college experience. Many schools have departments dedicated to study abroad but offer various levels of costs associated with the program or use an external agency to administer their programs. My advice is to research colleges that have study abroad departments and read up on what the programs offer, especially relating to costs and locations. Good luck in your research and study abroad.
