What is something that archivists work with that the general public doesn't typically know about?

I'm trying to figure out a back-up plan from being a librarian, and I think archiving would be perfect for me. However, I'm trying to find niche/lesser-known duties of that career to see if I truly would enjoy all parts of it. Thanks!

What is your best advice for picking between secondary education or higher education for the level of librarianship you want to take on?

I'm looking between those two levels and need some help for a research paper! As a HS senior it's very important to know for sure what level I want to specialize in before I enter undergraduate education.
