What made you guys enter into the accounting world, for example working for a big company or the government and when entering was the work easier or harder than you thought, like were doing the numbers boring but easy or were they stressful and was the pathway there worth it for my fellow accountants I’m currently about to enter my 3rd year of my undergraduate and plan to study accounting because I heard they are in high demand and I’m decent with numbers so that’s my question! #Spring25?

My father was an accountant in a past life, but gave that up to immigrate and give me a better opportunity. I picked up accounting and fell in love with it. It's problem solving, dynamic thinking, creative, all at once. Many people can't see below the surface and think it's a hard job looking at numbers all day, but the reality is there are so many opportunities in the field. I have done Tax, Consulting, and even worked at the IRS for a time. Sure, I have felt out of my depth at times, but more important than knowing everything is knowing how to ask questions and find the answers.

Sean’s Answer

Hi Israel,
I have worked at a mid size CPA firm, a private large biotech company and a boutique small firm as well. I can tell you that every business small or big will need accountants. Understanding the concepts of this field are of utmost importance for all business owners and we are here to help them navigate it all. You can work somewhere doing taxes which is challenging since tax law is always changing but also rewarding in that you are helping both individuals and businesses. You can work in audit where you review the inner workings of a company and assure them all processes / reporting are accurate & satisfactory. You can work in other areas doing work for small businesses such as monthly bank recs, financial statements, etc where you can then take the information you have prepared and analyze/review it with them and look at areas that need attention. Hope this helps. Just know you have a lot of options and you will see this as time goes on. good luck!
