How do you pay for college when your parents make to much for financial aid and can't pay for it out of pocket #Fall25?
I am a high school senior and will be attending Mississippi State University in the fall of 2026. I will be double majoring in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Contracting and Management, and will receive a minor in Business upon completion also. The biggest concern for me and my family is large student debt upon completion. I am applying for scholarships but it still appears majority will be funded by loans.

I completely understand wanting to go to college while being worried about the costs. I've been there too—I went to school using loans. The school gave me a little financial aid, but most of it came from FAFSA loans, Parent PLUS Loans, and other banks. This motivated me to work hard in college, find a major I loved, and get a great job to pay off those loans. You can do it!

I was in the same boat as you when I went to college. I didn't graduate debt free, but I was able to reduce the cost pretty significantly. In addition to scholarships, here are a few things I did to help:
- I became a resident assistant (RA). My college gave me free room & board as a result. This saved me tens of thousands of dollars. Most colleges will let you apply to be an RA your sophomore year.
- I got a part-time serving job at a local restaurant and worked some evenings/weekends. It's tough to balance with schoolwork, but it can be done.
- When I was home for summers, I worked full-time and saved all of that money for college.
