How can I start trading in the stock Market and learn about AI and bitcoin?

Hi, I’m 13 years old and I’m really interested in trading in the stock market someday. I also want to learn more about AI and Bitcoin because I think they will be important in the future.
What should I start learning right now to prepare for this? Are there any apps, skills, or subjects I should focus on in school? Also, what mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?
Thanks for any advice!

Start by getting a basic understanding of how the market works. Learn about stocks, bonds, and cryptocurrencies. Discover what makes them valuable and how their values change. This might seem boring at first, but it will give you a strong foundation to build on.

Imagine yourself investing real money. What would you choose and why? Since this is just a practice, you can make mistakes and explore different scenarios. Think about what would happen if you invested in one thing versus another.

Before investing real money, especially if you can't afford to lose it, try simulating investments or using small amounts. This can help you pay attention and learn what really matters.

Consider taking some accounting courses if you can. Learn how to use spreadsheets like Excel, which is a very useful tool for creating quick models. Also, try to learn about artificial intelligence to boost your skills. A bit of programming knowledge can help you handle large sets of data more effectively.

Learn the fundamentals first so that you have a base to build upon.

Learn how the stock market works at a high level. Once you grasp that, build upon it by going a little deeper. Learn the history of the stock market. Once it starts to take you in too many directions, you'll want list everything in priority order of what's really interesting to you and do them one at a time. Don't jump around much. If you do, make sure to steer back on the priority topic/interest you are working on. You'll stumble on folks like Warren Buffet. Study them all.

Do the same with crypto, but learn about the bigger crypto coins that have the most history (example: bitcoin, ethereum). Learn the good and bad from the technology behind crypto. Take it all into account because you need to understand it from all angles.

And do the same again with AI. If you're interested in Anthropic's Claude, deep dive and learn their history. That might take you into the general history of when AI came about and how (it's pretty interesting). Don't dismiss the bad (or what you might feel is the bad). Try to understand it as it gives you more perspective on the subject as a whole.

Throughout your journey, learning about the topics you're interested along with its history is what I've found works for me. Others may have their own opinion and they have every right to theirs. Find the objective facts, formulate your own opinions, and don't be swept up in "fear of missing out" (especially stocks and crypto). If folks have different opinions than yours, don't dismiss them. Take note of it and test it out for yourself. Come to your own conclusions by testing (taking action), understanding the outcome (clarity), and repeat as necessary.

And eventually, you'll have to try things out by "taking action" in order to gain "clarity". Learn by doing, but also be smart about it.

Honestly I don't know of any in school programs or subjects that would prepare you for this. I think this is kind of a "pave your own way" kind of study that you will need to do. I think this is a smart way to learn technologies you will be using in the future, again traditional academia does not really support this at this time.

I would start with tutorial videos on youtube and plan on making a small scale bitcoin mining setup and self serving AI lab at home. Understand these are low power and that the larger scale equipment is doing the same thing, just more of it. Remember now is the time to learn the basics, you don't need to make it actually do anything for you at this point. Spend modestly on your setup and just have fun learning!

Liam recommends the following next steps:

https://youtu.be/0h7lKgIFFXA - small and inexpensive bitcoin miner
https://youtu.be/Wjrdr0NU4Sk - a computer with a modern GPU will work
Make sure you take notes and build on what you learn! If you can track what doesn't work now, you will know what does work later on!

Yamil’s Answer

It's great that you're thinking about this early—you already have a head start.

Keep it simple for now:

Start by learning the basics: how money works, saving, and simple investing before diving into trading.
For AI, try out tools like ChatGPT and learn a bit of Python later on.
For Bitcoin and crypto, focus on understanding what it is, like blockchain and how it works, instead of just trying to make money.

In school, concentrate on math, logic, and basic programming. These will help you in all three areas.

Avoid these big mistakes:

Don't rush into trading with real money.
Don't trust "get rich quick" schemes, especially with crypto.
Don't copy others without understanding what they're doing.

Stay curious and learn before you try to earn, and you'll be ahead of most people.

To learn about stocks, try using a stock simulator like Simul8or first. It lets you practice and make mistakes without risking real money. It's a great way to understand the mechanics and rules.
