Hi Shannon. If your goal is to become successful in business, you need to focus on building valuable skills first rather than trying to find the "perfect" business idea.
While you are in 8th grade, you can start learning about business, money management, marketing, sales, and communication. Read books, watch educational videos, and learn from successful entrepreneurs. These skills will help you no matter what type of business you choose.
You can also start a small business now to gain experience. For example, you could sell handmade products, offer tutoring, provide lawn care, create digital designs, or start an online business. The goal is not to make a lot of money at first, but to learn how businesses work.
Many successful businesses are built by solving real problems. The more experience you gain, the easier it will be to identify good business opportunities.

Hi Shannon! It is amazing that you are already thinking about your future and have a big dream at such a young age. Here is some of the best guidance on how you can start preparing right now in middle School:
1. Focus on Skills, Not just the Money: The most successful business people focus on solving problems for others. Right now, learn valuable skills like basic computer coding, graphic design, digital marketing, or video editing. You can learn all of these for free online!
2. Start a Simple Micro Business: You do not have to wait until you are an adult. Many young entrepreneurs start simple businesses like lawn moving, washing cars, tutoring younger students, or selling handmade crafts online. This teaches you how to manage money and talk to customers.
3. Learn Financial Literacy: Start reading books or watching educational videos about budgeting, saving, and investing. Understanding how money works early on will give you a massive advantage when you are ready to launch a bigger company later.
4. Build Good Habits in High school: As you move into high school, focus on time management, working hard in your classes, and learning how to speak confidently. These personal development habits are the foundation for any successful CEO.
Keep your ambition strong and take it one step at a time. Good luck!

Hi, Shannon.
The link below lists the most profitable businesses in the UK. I suspect that, in the long-term, making money alone will not provide enough motivation for the hard work and challenges you will likely face as a small business owner. Therefore, I suggest that you:
- Begin writing down all your preferences relevant to work, such as what you like to do, your strengths, what type of people you like to be around, whether you like predictability or variety more, etc. You could link your preferences to the type of job you might want to do.
- Talk with trusted adults about what kind of business they see you in and why.
- Read books about famous entrepreneurs, such as Steve Jobs or Michael Dell. Typically, they were driven by the product they wanted to make or how they want to affect the market. They wanted a reward for their hard work and ingenuity, but the money came second in their success.
- You are too young now, but look for opportunities to work in an existing small business. This will broaden your understanding of what goes into business.
- When you and your parents feel comfortable, see if you could start a small business such as for tending lawns or taking care of pets. Again, this would give you experience and maybe lead to something larger.
I hope this helps and wish you good luck!

Take small, purposeful steps forward.
Begin by understanding how money works. This includes not just earning and spending but also investing, managing money, understanding compound interest, taxes, credit, loans, and payroll. Get a basic grasp of these concepts while thinking about what needs your business could meet. Pay attention to what people like and dislike by checking reviews and forums. Look for problems that are inconvenient, time-consuming, or tedious. As you learn about money, think about how your business idea can solve these issues.
Focus on one task at a time. Avoid distractions. Decide what you want to do and stick to it. You can explore other options later, but starting with too many things can lead to inefficiency. Keep operations lean and be prepared to put in the work. Hiring others means you'll need to pay for their dedication, so doing tasks yourself can save money initially.
Plan strategically. Consider where your business should be in one to two years. Observe market trends, competitor actions, and customer needs and expectations.
Best of luck.

Starting and running a business is akin to how you think about serving the needs of others. What problems do you see where you could offer a solution? When I was ten or so, my father was frustrated that, in city residential areas, not every home had an address plate. He fumed about driving around a city block of row houses trying to see an address.
I decided to buy sheets of numbers, remove the numbers and use the remaining empty number spaces to paint on to.
i went around our home area and used the number holes to paint the appropriate addresses on the curbing in front of each house. I then asked the residential owners for a contribution. This was my first profitable business.
In my teen years, I saw how much time residents spent caring for the small grassed in areas in front of each row house. So, I began to produce wooden animal figures, paint them appropriately, attach an iron bar and sell them as lawn ornaments. The animal ornaments became very popular. Again, it was a profitable business.
This is how you learn about customer needs, product development, sales, pricing, finances, warranties, product service, et cetera.
My son, learned the same lessons by cutting the grass in surrounding homes within suburban areas outside of the city.
Over many years, I became the President of several high technology businesses.

Shannon;
Success and wealth are measured in very different ways by people and the definition changes as you move through life.
The individuals above have given very good advice on how to move forward to achieve your Financial Wealth goals, but I invite you to also contemplate your Personal Wealth and Health goals. Balance is important in life and pursuit of financial wealth or business notoriety as an industry leader, can come at some steep costs. If you are the 1% that achieves these goals then the benefits are exponentially rewarded. I do encourage you while you are young to educate and plan toward these goals, but also remember to reevaluate and step back for perspective at critical junctures in life.
You may find that wealth and success, is better measured by the relationships in your life. The outreach you are providing to the community. As an example: Teachers in America are not highly compensated for the work they do to educate future leaders and business men. Yet many feel highly successful and wealthy, Especially when a former student returns to thank them for the influence they made on their lives.
I encourage you to educate yourself, on basics in financial and business management. Search your soul for the things in this world that mean the most to you. Discover what you are passionate about. If you haven't figured it out I am a hippie in my core soul. Maybe you will be the one who partners with Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, or Richard Branson and harvest water from other planets or stars. Best wishes in all your future endeavors no matter where they lead.

It's so exciting to see someone in eighth grade with so much ambition and such a clear vision for their future, and having that kind of drive at your age is a massive superpower. The absolute best age to start is actually right now, but you don't need to launch a massive, complicated corporation just yet. Instead, you can start small by learning the ropes of buying, selling, and marketing through simple things like offering neighborhood services, reselling items online, or even creating digital content. The secret to finding the right type of business isn't picking a specific industry out of a hat, but rather looking around you and finding a problem that people need solved, because every successful business is just a solution to someone's problem. By starting small with whatever interests you today, you'll build the foundational skills like talking to customers, managing your money, and handling setbacks that will make you an absolute powerhouse as you get older. You already have the hunger and determination that most people don't find until they are much older, and that passion is going to carry you incredibly far. Keep dreaming big, stay curious, and I wish you the absolute best of luck on your journey to becoming a business leader!
