What are some tips for majors/careers that require lots of math for someone who doesn't like math the most?

I am a current high school student who is thinking about what I want to major in in college and also what I want to do with my career. The topics of engineering and economics interest me but they both require lots of math. Math is not my favorite subject. #college #engineering #career #college-major #career-counseling #career-choice #economics #career-guidance

Eric:

Since you have not yet graduated from high school, there is plenty of time to explore and choose a major. During my first two years in college, a took a variety of classes. There was one biology class that I particularly liked in my Sophomore Year. So I decided to major in Molecular Biology at the end of my Sophomore Year. I recommend you explore a few fields yourself, before deciding on a Major. By the way, I ended up in a Career as a Civil Engineer, so it is entirely possible to find your Life's Work after college.

Hi Eric - I would encourage you to pursue what you like about these topics and decide what you like about them. Math may not be your favorite subject but maybe your passion for engineering will motivate you to learn what you need to learn. As you explore engineering, you will find out that there is project management and other facets of the field that my utilize other strengths and passions you have. So explore the subjects and find what interests you.

Eric,

Rise to the challenge. Do not run from Math because you don't like it. My recommendation would be to front-load your math requirements and face this head on. Then take advantage of mentors, friends, tutors, etc. If you reach out, you will be suprised to find there are so many resourses that want to help you get a good grade. I was a business major and took Statistics. I found out my boss at the time had a masters degree in Statistics. We would meet at lunch and review my homework, or study for exams.

Be what you want to be.

Regards,

Ron

Hi Eric! Engineering and economics are math heavy majors, therefore, I recommend that you look into other majors if math is not your favorite subject
