Freddie’s Career Stories

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

As a Technical Specialist I work within a retail store to troubleshoot issues with iOS devices, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. I do not perform physical repairs on damaged products, but I fix software issues and educate customers on the issues they are having. When a physical damaged product is presented to me, I am able to give all available options to resolve issues.

Did anyone ever oppose your career plans when you were young or push you in a direction you did not want to go?

No they did not, my parents always pushed me to be who I wanted to be. There were times where my Dad wished I worked towards something that could make a lot of money, but respected me for working towards a career I am more passionate about.

When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?

Yes! I am a Youth Leader at my church which taught me to work with others, public speaking, and helped me to be more empathetic. This also taught me team building.

How did you start building your network?

Making good friends at people at school in all of my classes, and really utilizing LinkedIn. Another great resource are the people that you work with and for at your job.

What is it like when your job gets tough?

When your job gets tough, you get tougher. It is best to relax, breathe, take a break and utilize the team you are working with. When you work through the hard times, they get easier to handle in the future.

What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?

Don't stay too faithful to one job, always do what is best for yourself and your career goals.

What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?

To not be faithful to one company. My college professor for Business Management.

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I worked many jobs and took many different classes that were all related to things I loved. This allowed me to find out what I really loved to do.
