Are Salesforce Certifications/Badges (e.g. Salesforce Certified JavaScript Developer I certification) helpful to land an entry-level job in current times? Any advice/insight will be greatly helpful! ?

I am not sure how useful will this certification be hence before I invest 32 hours in it, I would like to understand it's usefulness and value.

Any insight/advice is more than welcome!

I would like to understand what other certifications can be useful other than this?

Thank you!

It may not be a requirement but having this would be terrific. It's a head start in you can obtain certification and demonstrate these skills. Salesforce also has the Salesforce Platform Developer certs. If you want to move through the Salesforce paths, here are some things you can consider:
- Move through one of the Architect paths
- Experience, Service, Sales Clouds or CPQ
- I'll call it the foundation pack: Admin, App Builder, Platform Developer 1
Thank you comment icon Hey Jesse, Thank you so much for the advice. I am personally very interested in App Builder and Platform Developer. I started pursuing it and I thought it would be better to confirm if it is valuable before investing any more time into it. Thank you for the advice I will resume my track. Hope you have a great weekend. Parth Rasu

Hello, Parth Rasu !

Completing Certifications for any career will always enhance the skills you already have or teach you new ones. After considering a few things and your personal choice, you can decide if you want to add certifications to your education.

The certification you speak of will certify that you have advanced skills in Java Script Technology. Some people won't have this certification, so on a resume, you will stand out for showing additional expertise and skills when you apply for work. Although your college degree would be the primary experience that employers will use as deal makers, the certifications would only be in your favor if you decide to move forward with doing any.

Certifications are the credentials that could be important in getting promotions at a job or raises, too. Sometimes it's worth investing a couple of hundred dollars to do these and to also feel the personal achievement and accomplishment. I have left a link to a website that lists other certifications that you can consider. If you do not like the time length of the Java Script cert course, you can always look for different ones and there are a lot to choose from. I have left some links for you below listing some certifications that you can consider.

As you work with various assignments and new projects in computer science, start creating a resume with all of your experience and education listed. No one can actually predict how your career will go, but you are on the right path by thinking about certifications. My advice is to obtain as many as you can. Be aware that many trainings you can take would provide you with only a certificate of completion or attendance, not an official certification. Although Certificates of Attendance or Completion do show initiative and interest, you will want to put more emphasis on official Certification that says you are certified to work with a particular subject.

You can include Certifications in a separate heading on your resume or, if you have one, it's okay to include it under the Education heading on your resume.

To choose other certifications that may be useful to you, pinpoint the skills that you already have and search for certifications for that. For instance, if you are great at CGI, look for something that would certify you as an expert working with CGI. You will have to decide which other ones would enhance your skills and it will take some first hand internet searching and reading.

I hope that this has been of help and I wish you all the best !

Shawn’s Answer

Absolutely! Salesforce certifications can definitely give you a leg up in landing an entry-level job in the current IT landscape. Here's why they're valuable:

1. In-demand skills: Salesforce is a widely used customer relationship management (CRM) platform, and companies across various industries rely on it to manage their sales, marketing, and customer service operations. Having certifications in Salesforce technologies demonstrates that you have the skills and knowledge needed to work with this platform, which can be a big plus for employers.
2. Credential validation: Certifications serve as a tangible validation of your skills and expertise. They show potential employers that you've put in the effort to learn and master specific Salesforce technologies, making you a more attractive candidate for entry-level positions.
3. Career advancement: Beyond just landing an entry-level job, Salesforce certifications can also open doors for career advancement. As you gain more experience and earn higher-level certifications, you'll become even more valuable to employers and have opportunities for roles with greater responsibilities and higher pay.

In terms of specific advice:
1. Research: Look into which Salesforce certifications are most relevant to the entry-level positions you're interested in. Different roles may require different certifications, so tailor your choices to align with your career goals.
2. Preparation: Prepare thoroughly for the certification exams. Utilize study guides, practice exams, and online resources to build your knowledge and skills in the areas covered by the certification exams.
3. Hands-on experience: While certifications are important, hands-on experience with Salesforce projects can further enhance your candidacy. Consider volunteering for Salesforce projects, contributing to open-source projects, or even building your own Salesforce applications to gain practical experience.
4. Networking: Connect with professionals in the Salesforce community, both online and offline. Join Salesforce user groups, attend conferences and meetups, and engage with others in the field. Networking can provide valuable insights, mentorship, and job opportunities.
By investing time and effort into earning Salesforce certifications and gaining practical experience, you'll be well-positioned to land an entry-level job in IT and kickstart your career in the Salesforce ecosystem.
Thank you comment icon That was really insightful Shawn. Thank you so much. I really need to work on which certification would benefit the most for an entry level. I will get going with this research and pursue a certification. Thanks a lot for the advice. Parth Rasu
