Christina’s Career Stories

What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?

As an Asian American, most of the time we're raised to work hard and that's all you need to do for a job. But, alas, that's not the case! Legacy. My advice to first generation college students (I was one!), low-income and minority students, think about what kind of positive impact you want to have for the world. That will carry you through any economic climate (I graduated high school into the Great Recession! maybe aged myself....lol), because you will always be able to adapt your skill set--if you follow your values. Connect head and heart to your work. Be Kind and Dream Big. 💜

How did you start building your network?

Okay, some real talk. As an introvert, networking is not easy. Or, so I thought when I first heard of the word, early in my career. But, I think the key things to remember are: Networking is about surrounding yourself with supporters and like-minded people who push you to be the best you can be. Therefor, networking can come in all forms and it depends on your own style (online, in person, volunteering, etc). Ultimately, for me, networking is about being curious together with other people in order to work towards a common goal.
