About

Hi, I’m Cecily Black, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student specializing in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care. My background includes critical care experience at both Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins, where I had the opportunity to care for some of the most complex and high-acuity patients in the country. Those roles pushed me to think quickly, lead with clarity, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best interdisciplinary teams in medicine, experiences that continue to shape my identity as a future nurse practitioner.

I’m especially drawn to neurocritical care, acute and progressive illness, and the kind of clinical settings where no two days look the same. I thrive in high-pressure environments, but I also value the slower, more intentional moments—mentoring students, helping families understand what’s happening at the bedside, and thinking critically about how we can do better for patients and each other. I have also established a love for research and development and have assisted in the writing and publication of many peer-reviewed articles. I am currently focusing on the ever-expanding roles of technology, and the creative ways we can use cutting-edge advancements to enhance our patient care.

As a mentor, I try to be real, approachable, and supportive. I’ve been the new grad, the overwhelmed DNP student, and the nurse figuring out what’s next—and I want to be the kind of resource I wish I had at each of those stages. That is why I am also getting a post-doctorate certification as a Nurse Educator. If you’re interested in critical care, neuro, research and publication, professional growth, or just need someone to talk things through with, I’d be glad to connect. I definitely don’t have all the answers, but I care deeply, work hard, and will do my best to show up for you.
