How can I stand out as a pre-veterinary student when applying to different veterinary schools despite facing financial and personal challenges growing up? #Spring26
I am currently a pre-veterinary student going to into my second year of college in a couple months. My favorite classes are anything to do with art, music, or animals. I also enjoy writing and reading.

Hey Ryan,
I asked my best friend, who's a vet, to answer your question, and here's what they said:
Standing out isn't about having more chances; it's about making the best of what you have. Your challenges can show how strong, responsible, and determined you are. Focus on your experiences, no matter how small, and think about what you've learned from them.
Your love for art, music, and writing is a big plus. These show your creativity, communication skills, and empathy, which are important in veterinary medicine.
It's also key to understand what the job really involves. Being a vet takes commitment, discipline, and sacrifice. In a time when many seem less committed, showing you're ready to work hard and stay dedicated can really make you shine.
Above all, share your story clearly and honestly. Being genuine and knowing your purpose will stand out more than a "perfect" résumé.
