How did you set up your private practice?
Enrolling for my MA in counseling/art therapy and I think I would like to have a private practice one day. Can you tell me the steps you took to get yours set up? Has it been successful? Do you do private pay, insurance, both? Do you have a “niche” ?
What made you start your own private practice, and how did you go about it?
I am an aspiring clinical psychologist and have been doing research on private practice. I've read on how it gives you more freedom in setting your own hours, more control of your clients, and more independence as a business. I've also read on how it requires alot of your own resources, required you to network to find clients, and increases the management need for documentation with insurance companies. I'm just curious as to hearing about what made you start your own private practice (did you want more freedom? Didn't want to climb up a corporate ladder? Wanted more client focus? etc.), how you went about it, and what the experience has been like for you. What all is needed to run a Lactation Consultant Private Practice?
I've just started entertaining the thought of having my own practice. However, I'm not sure what all I would need to get myself going. Do I need an office, or can I run it out of my home? Should I only do home visits, or should I set up a home office and allow clients to come to me? Do I need malpractice insurance? Will big physical therapy companies wipe out private practices?
I work at a physical therapy clinic that has multiple locations. I was talking about owning my own practice when I get out of school. The feedback I received from them is basically saying that there was no point because the big companies are going to back all the private practices go out of business.
