About

Hi, I’m April Williams! I’m a Recruitment Marketing Specialist at Grady Health System, where I connect people with meaningful careers in healthcare through strategic storytelling, events, and digital outreach. I work closely with our Talent Acquisition team to improve the candidate experience, promote our employer brand, and ensure job seekers have access to the tools, resources, and guidance they need to succeed.

With a background in Human Resources and a passion for community impact, I’ve led initiatives that help early-career professionals, students, and career changers discover opportunities they may not have known existed—especially in healthcare roles that don’t always require a degree. I also organize and promote hiring events, speak at career fairs, and create educational content to support job seekers at all stages.

I joined CareerVillage because I believe in paying it forward. I know what it feels like to have questions about your future and not know who to ask. My goal is to help students feel confident, prepared, and inspired as they explore their paths. Whether you're thinking about college, career choices, or how to build your resume—I’m here to support you.

April’s Career Stories

What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?

One piece of career advice I wish someone had given me when I was younger is this: Your career path doesn’t have to be a straight line to be successful. When I was just starting out, I thought I had to have everything figured out—what job I wanted, what industry I’d work in forever, and how to climb the ladder step by step. But the truth is, some of the most rewarding opportunities came from unexpected turns: saying yes to a project outside my comfort zone, switching industries, or taking on work that aligned more with my passion than my original plan. What I’ve learned is that the most meaningful careers are built over time, through curiosity, relationships, growth, and a willingness to pivot. Don’t be afraid to explore, to try something new, or to redefine success as you go. Every step—even the ones that feel small or uncertain—can teach you something and move you forward. So if you're unsure or your journey looks different than others around you, that’s okay. Stay open, keep learning, and trust that your unique path has value.

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

In simple terms, I help people find jobs—and I make it easier for them to learn about the company, the roles we’re hiring for, and what it’s like to work here. I work on a Talent Acquisition team, and my focus is on recruitment marketing, which means I create flyers, emails, social media posts, and events that attract job seekers and help them feel confident applying. I also help organize hiring events, make sure our job postings are easy to understand and appealing, and create resources (like interview tips and guides) so candidates are well-prepared. My goal is to make the job search process more clear, welcoming, and human—especially for students, recent grads, or anyone starting a new career path.

What is it like when your job gets tough?

When my job gets tough, it usually means there are a lot of deadlines, events, or urgent roles to fill all at once—and not enough hours in the day to get it all done perfectly. Sometimes it’s juggling last-minute changes to hiring events, working with limited resources, or trying to support candidates while also managing internal expectations. It can feel overwhelming. But during those moments, I remind myself why I do this work. Helping someone get hired or making their job search less stressful makes the challenges worth it. I’ve learned to stay calm under pressure, prioritize what matters most, and ask for help when I need it. Even on the hard days, knowing that my work is helping people move forward in their careers gives me the motivation to keep going.

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I definitely didn’t know all along what I wanted to do. I actually thought I was going to be a teacher! But after taking a summer contract job in Human Resources, I realized how much I loved working with people in a different way—helping them find jobs and grow their careers. That role opened the door to Talent Acquisition, and I started as a coordinator, learning all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into recruiting. From there, I became a Talent Acquisition Partner (recruiter), and eventually got promoted to my current role as a Recruitment Marketing Specialist. Along the way, I made it a point to learn everything I could about the recruiting process, the tools we use, and how to make the experience better for candidates. I became the go-to person on our team for anything related to recruiting strategy and systems. So no, I didn’t have it all figured out from the start—but I followed what sparked my interest, stayed curious, and said yes to opportunities to learn and grow. That’s how I found a career I love.
