Jeanne’s Career Stories

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I did not choose the Nursing profession, it chose me. It is my calling. From the time I was 4 years old I knew that being a Nurse is what I wanted to be and what I was supposed to do. I did not start out right away to become a Nurse though. Originally, right out of High School I went into a banking job. I wanted to be a Nurse so badly but I simply could not face going to College at that time. I took on a job about a year after High School as a weekend overnight caregiver for a woman who had a tracheostomy and was bed bound. At that time the family paid me in cash and trained me on how to care for the patient. That was it, my passion was reignited and I was hooked. I was a Nurse deep down in my soul. So, I answered the calling and became an RN. I have specialized in Hospice Nursing for many years now and truly feel that it's where I belong. All Nurses find there niche in the healthcare field eventually. I have found that most Nurses I have ever known say the same thing that "Nursing is a calling". I count myself lucky because I think it is a rare thing to get paid for a job that you would do for free if you could.
