Michael A.’s Career Stories

What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?

Build the right network! Knowing the right people will open doors leading to the desired path.

When did you get your first Big Break? How did you get it? How did it go?

I got my first big break my senior year at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University many moons ago. Through perseverance of walking around the career fair handing out resumes (yes I said "handing out"; age check); I pretty much had not been successful the entire day at interviewing but decided to stay at the event until the end and came across a Technology Training both. I handed the representative my resume and before she could even look at it I ran through my resume from top to bottom; although there wasn't much meat on my resume I knew it explicitly. Nevertheless the rep was very impressed as she stated the majority of interviewees did not even know what was on their resume nor how it related to what role they were applying to. It wasn't the content on my resume that landed me a second interview it was my preparation, presentation and patience that open my door to the world of High-Technology! YES I got the job!
