How can I get involved in theatre when I start teaching at a public high school?

I'm a college student studying to be a high school teacher and I've always had a passion for the theatre. I was wondering if anybody has any insight on how I can get involved in theatre once I begin teaching. Would I likely be able to volunteer to help out? Should I look for a more professional position? Would it be worth the extra time and money for me to pick up a Theatre minor while I'm in college?

You can always volunteer. If you reply to this answer and tell me what state you are in I can tell you what the path is to become a Drama teacher (I think I can reply). Each state is different. No matter what take Introductory Drama in college.

Help the drama teacher by volunteering. You can assist with rehearsals, work backstage, manage costumes, or help with set design. Schools often need dependable volunteers.

Hey Rowan, I don't think you necessarily need to minor in theatre to get experience. Join a club while in college or participate in local community plays(they are usually much cheaper lol). And you didn't really specify if you wanted to be a theater teacher or like a math teacher but you can teach any subject and help with plays the school hosts as an extracurricular activity.
