What is the process like both mentally and educationally when transitioning from a Surgical Technologist to a first assist?
I am just now in the process of beginning my surgical technology program at PMI this july and am really looking forward to this new journey. I know that after obtaining my degree and licensing that I would like to work as a surg-tech for the first few years after graduation, but ultimately would like to transition into doing first assist and possibly going to med school to become a surgeon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
How do you decide what field of surgery is right for you as a surgical tech?
I am currently enrolled in a surgical technology program and I'm having a hard time deciding what specialty would be best for me. I would like to eventually advance my career and continue on to medical school, however I'm having a hard time making a decision on where I would be better suited. I would like to work with a specific specialty as a surgical tech so that I will have a better idea of my path during and after medical school.
Is it possible to grow from SPT to ST?
I’m interested in becoming a Surgical Technologist, but unfortunately, there aren’t any affordable programs in my area. I’ve heard that some hospitals offer tuition assistance or career advancement programs for employees who start as Sterile Processing Technicians (SPTs). I’d love to know if that’s true and if you or someone you know has taken that path. How long did it take? Thanks in advance!
How to start a new career in the medical field after 40?
After 18 years in corporate marketing and a BA in psychology from 20 years ago I’d like to start a second career in the medical field. I am thinking of starting with a certificate in phlebotomy and then hopefully use tuition reimbursement to help pay for surgical tech school or another two year degree. I know I will take a huge financial set back but I don’t want to work in marketing or corporate anymore. Any advice?
Are there lots of moments in which a surgical technologist tends to get in the way of the surgeon?
I am a 19 year old Job Corps student that wants to do something in the medical field. I want to know if being in the way of surgeons will potentially be an issue as a new worker.
