What is something that can prepare me to get into the dental field, especially like dental hygiene?

I'm in college getting a BA in Dental Hygiene. I have some experience from a Dental class that I took in high school.
I want to know what all there is to know about the field. The mental, physical struggles. Google does provide information, but that's from a search engine and not from a known experience.

Hi Lily,

Thinking about entering the dental field, especially dental hygiene, is a fantastic idea! To get started, consider shadowing a dental hygienist or volunteering at a dental office or community clinic. This hands-on experience will give you a great sense of the job and help you decide if it's the right fit for you.

Make sure to focus on science classes like biology, anatomy, and chemistry, as they are crucial for dental hygiene programs. Doing well in these subjects is important because many programs are competitive.

It's also a smart move to research dental hygiene schools early. This way, you’ll know the requirements, such as prerequisites, observation hours, or entrance exams.

Lastly, work on your people skills. Communication is key in dental hygiene because you'll be helping patients feel at ease and teaching them how to care for their teeth.

Starting early and staying focused will definitely set you on the path to success!

Many dental offices will allow you to spend time shadowing. This is the best way to see firsthand and talk one-on-one with people who have been in the field. I personally do not struggle mentally with my job as I enjoy it very much. Physically the job can be hard on our bodies. Staying in good shape will help this. Best of luck to you!!!
