Jyoti’s Career Stories

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

After my Bachelor's in Business Administration from Mumbai Unversity & MA in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, I also did my Associate CIPD (Chatered Institute of Personnel & Development) qualification from Warwick Business School - Warwick University in 2006, I then enrolled into Graduate Management trainee Programme and got a placement with a Healthcare Organisation, where I learnt a lot about corporate culture, what to do in a workplace and most importantly what not to do :). Each move in my carrier has been a learning curve, including my shift from being a Management Trainee to a role of HR Consultant, where I gained a lot of functional HR knowledge and experince, before embarking on to the world merged with HR + Technology, when I got myself trained into the SAP HR module and started to working on samll but rewarding projects as a frelancer. I have not looked back from this amalgamation of funtion and technology. Providing solutions and managing projects and programmes of various shapaes and sizes with some well known brands such as Cadbury, Barclays, BP, BBC, BG Group (now Shell), BOC (Now Praxair) and then leaving the legacy of B's behind, I also worked for companies like KPMG, Nestle and currently working on a very complex yet intersting project for Discovery Inc.

What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?

Do not be afraid of trying new things but do that with the mindset where you havethe patience to learn from both good and not so good experiences and that's when the real transformation happen. Read a lot, articles, books - both business and leisure, listen to podcasts and definitely your own inner-voice. Share your knowledge, ideas, thoughts or even questions; it is vital - even thou you don't feel confident about it yet. And last but not at all the least 'Never stop believing in your self'.

What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?

The biggest challange was managing my own self, managing others and being managed by others are the easier bist. Managing our focus, reactions, motivation, interests and purpose are the biggest hurdle in getting anything done; once I learnt to manage that, everything else followed and became so much more rewarding than ever before.

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

I help businesses transform their on premise Enterprise Resourcing Planning system into Digital Solution - by bridging the technological gap.
