What can I do for new life in Houston texas?
I recently moved to Houston, Texas, and I am looking for a job. I applied to many places, such as IKEA, Walmart, Target, Macy's, and other stores, but I was not approved. My major is computer engineering and I studied in Iran. I am a hardworking, creative, and creative girl, and I have other skills, and I learn everything very quickly. I have experience in network plus, website design, digital marketing, robotics, and many computer fields, and even fine arts, Photoshop, and photography in Iran. But in America, with this work experience, I was not given a specialized job. I understand that a degree from America is necessary. I also worked at Amazon in the warehouse. Also, since I recently came to Texas, I need guidance for work and life. I also need academic counseling because I would like to study paramedical and dentistry in Texas. I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas or can give me some guidance, please message me because I really need work and progress.

Hi Fatemeh, you have an impressive background but, depending on what you are sharing in your profile and resume, you may be letting the potential employer know that you are either overqualified or underqualified, depending on which position it is. This can often repel them. The more focused your resume is, the better the opportunities that will become available to you. There is no issue at this stage in your life in exploring what your final career will be, but I suggest that you have several resumes, if you don't already, that are tailored to the job for which you are applying. You also might consider internships. As others have suggested, don't give up. Be consistent in your efforts to apply for jobs, setting apart a certain amount of time each week for that effort. When I was a career counselor, I would encourage my clients who had an interest in medical fields to try for any position they could get at a hospital, just to get "in" and get the associated benefits - patient transporter, warehouse, dietary aide, etc. Once you are in, employees are often considered prior to jobs being posted to the outside. If you are interested in dental, the same would apply for the dental school.
I also recommend you check with your nearest Texas Workforce office to see if any assistance is available through them. Depending on your needs, and their funding, you may be eligible for grant-funded schooling.

It is good to hear that you are being proactive in looking for a job. It is good to see that you have applied to some places, but I would recommend applying to many, many more. You should be applying to at least 1 to a couple every day. Be sure to keep up with job postings online like LinkedIn and Indeed. Be sure to have a clean resume.
You can also try to find a job in something that is related to what you studied. If you find a smaller sized studio there is a chance you can start to gain some experience there as some independent studios focus more on skills than degrees.
For your medical studies, start researching what schools are near you, what is needed to apply, and how the process of the schooling works. Some might be different from others. Be sure to email or call their admissions department if you need help understanding something.

I am not sure only you will be able to tell if this is true and make the adjustment but it could be that you should try the dentistry closer to home because right now it seems a lot of graduates are having trouble finding employment. Also maybe try informational interviews to see what would be needed to gain employment at places where you want to make a living. It could be that you should go straightforward into a dentistry program and forego Target, etc. but I know you probably need the money. Also once you finish your dentistry program you may still may not end up in Texas, you will have to go where the position is.
Also pray to God to lead you and guide you. Give your life to Christ early because he loves you and has a plan for your life so you can live with all your blessings instead of half! God Bless You, honey.

It may not give you an immediate job, but I highly recommend attending networking events and job fairs. Moving to a new place can be difficult, starting to build your professional network can play a huge role in your success.
The job market is pretty tough right now, but stay consistent and persistent and hopefully something will pan out.

If you haven't already, start using LinkedIn actively. Try to apply for at least one job every day and create a resume that matches each job using your relevant experience. Don't forget about a cover letter tailored to the job you're applying for; this extra effort can help you stand out from other applicants. Although it might seem a bit old-fashioned, consider reaching out to the hiring manager occasionally to check on your application status. This shows initiative and helps them remember you beyond just your resume. You seem disciplined and determined, so use those qualities to your advantage! For job search purposes, you should update your resume to every single thing you every did in work, school and volunteer activities. 4-6 pages is fine to publish on sites like indeed, linkedin, dice, monster, careerbuilder. Additionally create a small 2-3 pager resume for the more recent and relevant job experience for specific jobs. You likely have unique language skills that will make you stand out in the job market. There may even been some groups in Houston that are designed to specifically help individuals from your country find jobs. A simple google search found this list of affinity groups.
