I am a Professional Staff Specialist/Credentialing Specialist (also known as a Medical Staff Professional (MSP)), for one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the US. I started my career in Human Resources and transferred into the Medical Staff Professional (MSP) realm. As an MSP I conduct extensive background checks on our medical/dental/BH providers. I have an MBA with a dual concentration in Healthcare Management and Human Resources Management.

What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?
One of my biggest challenges is public speaking. In my industry, there are several public speaking opportunities which often helps you grow as a professional. In doing so, you are often recognized as a leader or go-to individual. My former supervisor believed in me more than I believed in myself. He knew this was a personal and professional goal of mine but knew that I wouldn’t accomplish this goal alone. At the 2023 state conference he had me present along with him. It was a small group but it allowed me to begin my path in public speaking and slowly overcome my fear of doing so.
In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?
I conduct extensive background checks on the providers for the organization. I verify their training, work rx, licensure, and sanctions. I also research and keep up with industry standards and requirements.
