About

I am a registered nurse who is currently working as a complex case manager at a private insurance company. I have experience in acute, locked psychiatric facilities, acute medical, acute medication assisted treatment for withdrawal, acute telemetry/cardiac. Before I became an RN, I was a travel and perdiem nurse recruiter, so I am quite adept at resume writing for nursing.

Bev’s Career Stories

When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?

When I had decided on a career in nursing, I found out points were offered to those already working in the health care field. I knew I needed to try to study as much as possible, so I procured a job in an acute care hospital as an admissions clerk on the 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm weekend rotation. The job entailed registering patients by asking for ID, insurance card and address for the emergency room, labor and delivery, medical floors and outpatient clinics. This gave me the opportunity to hit the books when things were slow, but I also learned about how to approach people when they were physically uncomfortable, agitated and sad. I was also able to dip my toe into patient care without having to jump in too quickly, by pushing wheelchairs, grabbing a blanket or getting an emesis basin. By the time I hit the floor, I had seen all the things that shocked new nursing students, and I was also comfortable asking pretty intimate questions of a complete stranger.
