What steps should I take now to make myself a competitive candidate for the graduate programs I’ll need in order to continue my path toward becoming a BCBA?

I’ve been working in the field of ABA for several years, and throughout that time, I’ve grown from an RBT into someone who is deeply committed to advancing in this profession. My next major milestone is becoming a BCaBA, which is an important stepping‑stone in my long‑term goal of earning my BCBA. Graduate school is a crucial part of that journey, not just because it’s required, but because it will give me the advanced training, supervision, and academic foundation I need to provide high‑quality, ethical, and effective services to the clients and families I work with. I want to make sure I’m preparing myself now, academically and professionally, so that when I apply to graduate programs, I’m confident, competitive, and ready for the next stage of my career in behavior analysis.

How can I pursue a PhD in research on nutrition affecting behavioral health regarding autism (?

How can I pursue a PhD in research on nutrition affecting behavioral health regarding autism? I am currently a Registered Behavior Technician II with a BA in psychology, and I witness firsthand how much nutrition can impact behavior. However, there are a lot of hoops to jump through for me to be able to conduct the research I want to do, and I am not exactly sure how to navigate through them. In my undergraduate program, I took a nutrition class and learned how artificial sugar impacts cognitive performance, and I realized how unaware the general population is regarding proper nutrition. Thus, I could see the behavioral difference in some of my clients based on the kinds of foods they ate and the severity and frequency of maladaptive behaviors, attention abilities, and energy levels. As of right now, I am thinking I need to attend a community college to attain a Nutritional Specialist certification and an Associate of Science degree for the prerequisites before I pursue a graduate degree in nutritional sciences. Additionally, I have vaguely looked into it, but I am still trying to find a school that conducts research related to my ideal research area.

How can I reach out to ABA centers for a practicum internship as a student based in Georgia?

Hello! I'm in an online ABA program that requires me to gain some fieldwork hours through a practicum course. Most centers are either out of my radius (I am based in Atlanta) or they are only in-home therapy opportunities; however, I don’t have a car.

What is the process like when applying for graduate ABA programs?

I am entering my third year as a BS major in Psychology at Florida State University. I want to learn how to apply to graduate programs, and if there are any specific characteristics I should have for my application. I currently work a part-time job as an office assistant at an ABA therapy agency, and I am involved in clubs on campus. Is there anything else I should be doing? I am looking to apply for graduate programs in behavior analysis in hopes of becoming a BCBA. Thanks for your feedback! #Spring25
