When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?
When I attended nursing school I had already been a Licensed Massage Therapist for several years. I knew a lot of the medical terminology and anatomy for my job as a bodywork practitioner. Now that I am a nurse I feel my massage therapy skills help a lot when seeing a patient with complaints of pain. I can put on my LMT "hat" and try to assess what might be going on. It has helped me a lot in the clinical setting. I'm very grateful for my first career. It has also helped make me a fantastic nurse who looks at each patient from a holistic perspective.
