What's the most difficult concept to learn and master when it comes to Music Theory education, whether it be compositional, vocal or aural?

I am a junior in high school and am considering going to college to get a degree of theater or music or a mix of both. I am wondering what kind of jobs I could get with of combination of these degrees and how hard it would be to get these degrees? Is the pay good? Are these jobs hard or fun or...

I'm interest on pursuing a music bachelor's degree specifically on vocal performance, but I want to know if the degree is necessary to become a musician or how else could I get started on the music-industry as a solo performer.
