How do broadcast engineers/technicians advance to higher positions in their careers?
Hi! I am a senior who will be graduating in May and am super passionate about electronic media with a sports concentration, which is what I am hoping to earn a degree in at Texas State University. I have 3 years of experience working as a broadcast technician at my local stadium, and I hope to continue it during college. I always wondered how technicians "move" up in positions? Is there a certain process you have to go through to run each piece of equipment (switcher, replay, etc) at certain companies? Or does everyone sort of switch around based on the mood? I recently started wondering about this because I really do love sports broadcasting and being able to successfully run a broadcast production, but later on in life, I want to hopefully use those skills to become a film director, and I wonder how I can put those skills to use!
What are the most crucial skills a mass communication professional needs to stay relevant in the current media landscape?
I am currently a senior in high school and will be graduating upcoming June 2026. I am looking forward to going to college and want to major in Mass communication/media. I also want to have a minor in entrepreneurship so I can build my own brand.

Why is journalism important?
Ever since I was in the 6th grade ive wanted to become a Journalist. I have a strong passion for informing, researching and helping the commuity as best as I can. But, I have also realized that there is barely a demand for journalists. And anytime I express to anyone that this is my future they point out the idea that " there's no money in that ya' know?" . I believe that there will always be a need for informtion.
