What do aerospace engineers actually do day-to-day?

I’m trying to understand the real scope of aerospace engineering beyond the basic “design airplanes and rockets” explanation. From what I’ve read, it seems like the field covers a lot—things like aerodynamics, propulsion, structural design, simulation, and testing—but I’m not sure what a typical workday actually looks like in practice. For anyone working in or studying the field: what do aerospace engineer do on a regular basis, and how much of it is hands-on vs computer-based work? I also came across this overview that explains the different areas pretty clearly: https://hydrasearch.com/what-do-aerospace-engineers-do/ Would appreciate real-world insights from students or professionals.

I'm a university second year computer science student in Seattle. I'm super interested in embedded systems and firmware and would love to work on systems used by space agencies on their missions. Can a degree in Mechanical Engineering qualify me for a job in Hardware Engineering, or is a different background typically preferred?

I am really into Computers and its components. I will starting College in August and will be taking Mechanical Engineering as my major, and I was wondering if a Mechanical Engineering could help me get a job in the Hardware Engineering field after I graduate. Are both fields similar enough to allow me to work in a Hardware Engineering field or just strictly Mechanical Engineering?
