Sarah’s Career Stories
How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?
No. I didn't even really know what electrical engineering was when I chose it! I had taken some IT and programming classes in high school which I really enjoyed, and I knew I loved math. Talking to a college advisor pointed me in the direction of electrical engineering. As I took more classes, I learned that electrical engineering is much more theoretical and physics-based than I originally assumed - but I still enjoyed it, and it was fun to use my math skills to understand better how the world works! Another big factor in choosing engineering for me when I was in high school was looking at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics website with my dad. We looked at a lot of careers I was interested in: journalism, engineering, dancing, musician, and more. Engineering had a great long-term outlook and good starting salaries, which was also a big factor in my decision-making. I wanted to make sure that my career would support me and my family for the long haul, and it definitely has.
