Muhammad’s Career Stories
What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?
Adults do the things that suck, to be able to do the things they like.
In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?
Pipelines are a critical part of our infrastructure, similar to roads or highways. They transport gas, water, oil etc. across the US and the world. I specifically look at locations where an oil pipeline crosses a body of water such as a river, ditch etc. I then asses the crossing for water-related threats like drag force, vortex induced vibration, failure of the banks. We then mitigate the issue in an appropriate manner. We also monitor these crossing on a frequent basis to ensure there is no failure. All this is very important since pipelines operate in the public, so a spill could affect every-day people. Our goal is to never ever have a spill or leak.
