What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?
Although I chose my graduate degree in social work and started my career there, I have somehow found my way into law enforcement as a parole officer. In social work, most of my colleagues were female but in law enforcement, it still a male dominated field. Being a female and Asian-American, there were many stereotypes and assumptions that were made. I made sure to maintain professionalism, I surrounded myself with supportive and safe co-workers and continued to work hard. Some people will never change their belief system, but most people will see how you work and will respect you if you work hard.
