When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?
I took up a lot of extracurricular activities that sharpened my mind and skillset. I believe staying curious has always been my guiding force in life.
What is it like when your job gets tough?
It gets overwhelming most times but I then remember my Why and this fuels my passion and determination.
How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?
I did a lot of trial and error in my for over 14 years of my life both in school and in the workplace. I worked as a Banker, Programmer, Graphic Designer but Psychology had always stood out for me.
What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?
Never stay complacent. Always be willing to learn everyday. My collegue in College always reminded me of this.
Did anyone ever oppose your career plans when you were young or push you in a direction you did not want to go?
My Dad had always pushed me to do things I did not want to do especially my career choices but that is always typical in an African Home, but in 2020, I made a decision to think independently and make my own choices.
How did you start building your network?
Picking the right platform and community is very important, because choosing the right platform that aligns with your goals and values makes networking easier.
When did you get your first Big Break? How did you get it? How did it go?
My first big break came in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. I worked as a Crisis Counselor for a Mental Health company and it went well because it defined my path today.
What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?
Never be afraid to follow your heart.
In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?
I help students become the best version of themselves.
What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?
I struggled with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and fear of what people would think about me. The way I overcame those challenges was just being more observant and I found out that people had their own problems in life and more than half of the time, I was never on their mind.
