Ta’s Career Stories
What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?
You should select a college for different reasons and not focus on the title of job you want later. 1. It has the curriculum you WANT to study now. You are continuing your education, not just getting a job 4-5 years later. 2. It has student support services such as Career Services/Internships, Tutoring, Counseling. All, not just one. 3. You can join a student organization you like and will be active. Build your resume, have fun, and meetstudents with similar interests. 4. Ask the college if they allow double counting courses, one course can count for two different degree requirements. The credits count once but it helps students have free electives to complete minors, double major, explore majors. It is less structured. You will be doing homework. Be sure to select major because you like the curriculum and not because you think the title of job or graduate degree must match title of major. In most cases it doesn’t. You can be an art major and still complete medical school entrance requirements, for example. How do I know? I spent 17 years working at colleges and 10 as an administrator. Enjoy!!
