Career path advice, i feel stuck as a Computer Engineering graduate.?
Hello, i am in BOTSWANA, recently graduated with a BEng Honours in Computer engineering degree and now i don't know what to do next. i was looking to progress on a field which won't make me feel like an imposter as a comp engineer. i don't want to feel like i abandoned my field to hope onto other professions like telecoms, networking and IT fields which seem to be for comp science or IT graduates. The internet suggest that the usual path is along the embedded systems which i find really interesting and makes sense for my field, i want to be unique and true to my profession. i believe i studied Comp Engineering for a reason. now I'm at a crossroad, i don't know much about the industry's employability. demand for embedded professionals or even if it's worth it. i am limited in the following ways: - financially (currently unemployed) - location (Botswana does seem to have any offers/ need for comp engineers) - information (i don't know the realistic review of the field, sounds excited from theory) i have narrowed down my other possible options 1. Embedded hardware/software/systems 2. Cloud Engineering 3. ICS (Industrial Control Systems) security 4. someone recommended ITIL certs Finding a job is difficult so i don't have cashflow to afford things which is the major thing affecting my choice. most suggest cloud because it's easier to get into though I think it's too congested just like cyber security. embedded seems rightful but it's expensive to even start. Other fields make me feel like an imposter to Comp Science professionals. What i thought i wanted was to be unique, to create and design/ make custom electronic at a hardware/firmware level. i already have friend in electrical, web dev, coding, mechanical. i want to have a firm and recognised stance in my field. Perhaps im asking the wrong questions, perhaps i have analysis paralysis, or im overthinking things. maybe i should do what pays bills instead. Any advice would be appreciated, maybe I could reach clarity. Thank you
How do I get started with Robotics?
I am very passionate about it, but I have no clear path ahead of me except creating a few basic bots like a Line Follower Robot or an Obstacle Avoiding bot. Any tips? Also, I'm a 2nd Year Electronics Engineering student for context.
What is the most crucial skill or area of knowledge a student should focus on right now to become a successful Hardware Engineer?
I am currently a student in high school and I am wondering what I need to study now to become succsessful later.
What is it like to work in software/robotics?
What does a work day look like in software/robotics? What tasks do you perform daily? What do you love/hate about it? What is it really like to work in this field?
Electrical Engineering -- do you like it?
Just asking any electrical engineers if they like their job and their work in this field.
Lost in embedded systems, how to get back on track?
Hi, For fall 2025, I'm going to take Embedded Systems 2 which covers more embedded systems and stuff using the Tiva C Series TM4C123G LaunchPad - EK-TM4C123GX. The problem is I don't even know what's happening anymore. I have no idea how I passed Embedded Systems 1, let alone Intro to Embedded Systems (which is basically Embedded Systems 0)... Every time I'm in class, I hate everything and wished I could switch my major to applied mathematics or something (it's too late to change now). I legitimately have no idea what's happening anymore and it's worse that there's an embedded systems 3 class afterwards. I'm, admittedly, a little worried I won't be able to graduate because I kind of need to do a senior project that involves embedded systems (I could do a thesis but I don't know what to research). All in all, both sound god awful. Does anyone have any good resources I could use? Or should I just keep guessing on the exams and just help with the writing parts of the projects... because I'm so lost... could not explain anything to anyone--I'm only good for moral support, that's how useless I am in the labs. I fear I lost the plot. Help.
Just graduating into the IT field. Software or Hardware? I dont mind electricity
Just recently graduating into the it field, which should I go for in career choice? Should it be writing with c for hardware or should it be software?
starting career in embedded system engineering
I have graduated in Electronic engineering 2 years ago in the UK since I did not have any experience and still cannot figure out how I can start gaining experience. I have done some courses online and tried to learn some of the required skills needed for embedded system engineer such as C, microcontrollers like stm32, communication protocols and did some personal project. But I feel I am lost and my gap years is now another obstacle I have to get into the industry. what should i do.
Should I focus on Embedded Systems or Data science/analytics?
I'm studying computer engineering in my 2nd year, and in the summer I'll be applying for a co-op. I've done my research and it appears that embedded systems has a steeper learning curve and barrier to entry than let's say data analytics. Both are not easy, but getting an internship as a data analyst looks more approachable. Both are also interesting to me, although embedded looks more hands on and engaging. Thoughts?
How should students apply knowledge to best prepare for their dream job?
Many students enjoy their education immensely and put in a lot of work to excel at their field of study, but is it truly preparing them for their dream job? Sometimes education can be generalized and it would be nice for students to have some idea of what they could be doing to develop real world skills that will solidify their acquired knowledge in order to prepare for their future career. #engineering #software-engineering #embedded-systems #embedded-linux #embedded-software #embedded
What is the future on hardware engineering?
My father is a hardware engineer who loves his job and gets a good living out of it. However, software engineering tends to dominate over hardware engineering nowadays and I was wondering is hardware engineering going to survive and be as fruitful at this rate? #engineering #engineer #jobs #hardware #outlook
