What benefits are there in being an astronomer? What things do you study?

Like how are you guys able to make such specific predictions and when actually taking a picture, figuring out it was similar or almost exactly same?
Like the black hole picture for example, recently it was discovered and almost exactly as it was predicted to be.

I have a degree in neurobiology. What types of careers can I do with that besides medical school and nursing? I am interested in learning more about medical writing as well and what a typical day to day looks like.
