About

I am a certified secondary education teacher. I can teach culinary arts, child development, cooking, sewing, general finance, and other life skills courses. I am certified to teach 6th grade through technical college.
I loved teaching, but my life had a different plan for me!
Now, I work as an IT Analyst for Dell Technologies, supporting the technical needs of employees around the world. When I'm not working for my job at Dell, I'm going to school. Right now, I'm working on getting a graduate degree and becoming certified to practice as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

I've also worked as a janitor, a chicken shop cook, a waitress, a wedding dress alterations specialist, a vacuum saleswoman, and a nanny!

Sam’s Career Stories

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

I provide IT Support for Dell employees. When a new person is hired onto Dell, I provide them with their equipment (i.e. laptop, monitor, etc) and make sure their account is set up for them. As the employee continues their career with Dell, if they ever need technical support related to their job or their company-owned equipment, they can come directly to my office or contact my team. My team manages the network and internet, phones, hardware repair, inventory, mobile phone support, and software support for over 200,000 Dell employees. We only provide support for people employed by Dell, so I don't work in a call center. Most Dell buildings actually have support centers for employees that look a lot like how a computer repair store might look. We have an "open-door policy" (which means we want everyone to feel comfortable coming to our offices to ask for help - nobody will be turned away for any questions they might have) so our offices have automatic sliding glass doors, help counters and waiting areas with couches. Even though Dell employees are the only people who can come in for support, our offices are made to look like customer-facing shops so the space feels comfortable and welcoming. A few of the programs I work with include Power BI, Power Automate, Microsoft Office programs, Windows 10, Linux, Adobe programs, WorkSpace One, VMWare, RSA, Zoom, Skype, and hundreds of others. I also repair hardware for all Dell computers, some mobile phones, and even server equipment!
