When getting into welding do I have to think of it strictly seriously and as a career that I'm single mindedly pursuing, or is it fine to also think of it as a fun hobby?

Sometimes to have a career you'll need to go to collage but in my case i don't want to go how can I start my career without having to go to collage?

I wanna know for fact that I need to get ready for staying in college for more time that is needed for the my career choice because depending on the ages i choose to help that can determine how much school its gonna take.
