How does a Counselor or Psychologist avoid getting overwhelmed or emotionally involved hearing the tragic stories of others?
I am a college freshman, majoring in Psychology. I am very committed to my desire to help others with personal trauma but am concerned about the affects it will have on my own thoughts and feelings. How do I disconnect myself and still be effective for others?
What are good colleges preferably in california but out of state works too. That have good elementary education majors or the science of child development?
I am currently in 10th grade and have to make a college list for my scholarship programs highlighting colleges I'm interested in. Categorized by high reach and easily attainable. Through my search I couldn't find many good colleges with said majors. One of the only college I saw was University of La Verne which is good since it's in state. Another important thing to me is that they are willing to accept my college credits I have accumulated through dual enrollment at community college. Overall I'm just wondering what are good colleges for these majors as I want to work with children in the future.
What are things to start working towards being in 9th grade?
I am currently in 9th grade and am wondering what types of programs or things that I can do currently. To build up my portfolio for college. To be more specific I want to go to school for early childhood education or to become a social worker. Some schools that I have heard to be good for those fields are UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, La Verne, etc. These are some of the schools that I am trying to work towards. I am already in a scholarship program that is helping me build it up through their help but we only meet around once a month and I know that I can be doing much more than I am currently.
What are some good programs or volunteer oppotunities?
I'm currently in 9th grade and have been volunteering since the summer before 6th grade. I want to work with children in the future so my volunteer work is mainly centered around that. I have done workshops and other things where I get certificates at the end and more. Though this I feel as if most of the workshops aren't really centered around the field I want to go into. Because they are not really centered around my field it seems they are unimportant. Overall what are some good opportunities for workshops, volunteering etc that can help me work towards the field I want to go into.

What kind groups do you work with as a child development professional?
I want to go for a child development. I want to work with little kids in pre-k thru 5th grade, but I'm not interested in working with students higher than 6th grade. Is that possible? Can you control the age range of the children you work with? #early-childhood-education #child-development #early-childhood
